About Hearmory — training your tone memory

Hearmory trains auditory working memory — holding a run of pitches in your head and playing it back in order. It is the memory a musician leans on to learn a melody by ear, to echo a phrase back to a bandmate, or to keep a tune in mind long enough to write it down.

Listen to the sequence, then tap it back on the pads. Each round it grows by one tone, stretching how much your ear can hold at once.

Pitch memory grows with use, not just talent. Our guide to tone-memory training covers how the ear stores and recalls pitch, and how to build a longer span. Explore the rest of our ear-training guides for more.
